WEDNESDAY: JOY by Julie Harrison

SCRIPTURE: Revelation 4:1-11

“And there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne. Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. Before the
throne, seven lamps were blazing. ...the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne, and worship him who lives forever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:

'You are worthy, our Lord and God,
To receive glory and honor and power,
For you created all things,
And by your will they were created
And have their being.’
—Revelation 4:1-11

Try to remember a day that you call the best day of your life. The memories of that day fill you with great joy and a feeling of warmth. If you close your eyes, you can even remember vivid details, colors and a great sense of nostalgia. For me, that day may have been when I sat in the porthole of a cruise ship. That day I was filled with such a sense of peace and joy as I watched the blue-green waves and saw the sea gulls flying overhead. I was able to momentarily forget life’s responsibilities and enjoy the blessings of that moment.

The peace and joy of that day had a lasting effect on my soul. But it is only a taste of the joy that our Heavenly Father has in store for us. The Apostle John was blessed to experience a vision of heaven that he describes in Revelation. Our finite minds cannot even fathom what it might be like, but as we read, we get a taste of what our eternity can be like, if we choose to follow Christ.

This day, let’s take a moment to reflect on the joyful moments that God has blessed us with. He offers us joy in every circumstance if we will only pause to realize that every good and joyful gift comes from Him.

PRAYER
God, we give thanks for the many blessings You give day after day.
The air we breathe, the people in our lives, and Your daily provisions give us great joy.
We look forward to experiencing the everlasting joy You have in store for us in heaven.
