WEDNESDAY: HOPE by Julie Harrison
SCRIPTURE: 2 Peter 2:8-9
“With the Lord, a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
Many times in my life, I have found myself in what I call “the waiting room.” These times were agonizing and felt as though they would never end. Whether it was the time I was waiting for my mom to overcome a long-term illness or when I was awaiting news about a new job opportunity, the waiting seemed to go on forever.
On those days, when I felt I could not withstand one more minute, I realized that the waiting room is one of God’s favorite places to show up. He teaches us many amazing lessons along the way, like hope for the future and trust that He will work things out. He gives us the patience we need to endure the wait.
As this Advent season nears, we once again find ourselves waiting, this time for God’s promise of His glorious return. Do you ever wonder what is taking so long for Jesus to come back for all those who believe? God’s word promises that it will happen. But “God’s slowness to fulfill His promise is not slowness as some think.” It is God’s patience, waiting for us to repent so none might perish. His patience gives people time to be saved. Let’s live blameless and pure lives that are honorable in the sight of God. And while we are waiting for His return, may we introduce as many as possible to the God of the Universe so they too can join the family of God.
Heavenly Father, please help me to be patient for your return.
Fill me with Your hope, knowing that you always keep your promises
