Call to Worship: Psalm 18:1-19
Reflection Questions:
Read Psalm 18:1-9. What is your favorite image of God in these verses?
Ezekiel is packed with imagery and visions that are fulfilled in the person and story of Jesus and his followers. Let’s first focus on resurrection. This was connected to the return of the exiles. Read Ezekiel 37:1-14 and then Jesus’ interaction with Martha in John 14:21-27. What do these two passages together tell us about God and those who believe in Jesus?
Now, consider the imagery of creation around the renewed temple. Compare Ezekiel 47:1-12, John 4:10-14 and Revelation 21:1-5. What can we learn about God and creation from these passages?
The glory of God was predicted to return to the temple in Ezekiel 43:1-5. Compare that to the description of Jesus in John 1:14-18. What does it mean for us that Jesus is God’s glory and presence?
Now think about the New Testament theme of believers becoming the temple of God. Read 1 Peter 2:4-5 and 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. If Jesus’ disciples are the temple, what does that tell us about our purpose in the world?
Take a moment to quietly review these themes you’ve reflected on. Which image is God drawing your heart to more: moving from death to life or moving from broken to restored temple?
Close in prayer. Believers are members of the resurrected body of Christ with a mission to bear his life-giving presence in this world. What area of your life needs to adjust to more fully reveal Christ’s presence? Ask God for help.
