Call to Worship: Psalm 34:1-10

Reflection Questions:

  1. Begin by meditating on Psalm 34:4-7 for two minutes.

  2. Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi were the final prophets to the Jewish people. Haggai and Zechariah motivated the people to rebuild the temple, and Malachi came a couple decades later to encourage the people to remain faithful to God.

  3. How does Haggai’s call to “give careful thought to your ways” help the people restart the building of the temple in Haggai 1:2-15?

  4. Read Zechariah 4:1-10 to get a glimpse of God’s encouraging vision to the governor Zerubbabel. Why is 4:6 essential to remember in doing God’s work?

  5. What displeases God in Zechariah 7:4-14? Why must worship of God be accompanied by service of others?

  6. In the final prophetic book, Malachi calls for faithfulness to God in worship, morality, marriage, justice and tithing. And in his final vision (4:1-6), Malachi sees a promise of restoration and reconciliation for those who revere God and punishment for evildoers. How does putting faith in the Sun of Righteousness, Jesus, guide us in being faithful in worship, morality, justice and tithing?

  7. As we close, focus on one of these questions and share with a friend.

    • If you need to be more intentional, how can you give careful thought to your ways?

    • If you need God’s Spirit, what is something you can do to make room for the Spirit?

    • If you need to increase your acts of mercy, where can you begin?

    • If you need faith to endure, ask the Sun of Righteousness for help.
