Series: Heaven Came Down Part 2: Peace

Preacher: Josh Kleinfeld

Sermon Text: Isaiah 40:1-11

Supplemental Texts: Psalm 85, 2 Peter 3:8-15a, Mark 1:1-8

We have been entrusted with God’s tender message of peace (Isaiah 40:1-11)

  1. The price of sin has been paid for.

  2. The glory of God is coming through the wild.

  3. People are fickle and fade, but God’s word is faithful and endures.

  4. God is here! Strong and tender and wise.

Have you received His peace? We cannot share what we have not received.

Use these lines from Psalm 85 as prayers…

Restore us again, God our Savior,

Will you not revive us again,

that your people may rejoice in you?

Show us your unfailing love, Lord,

    and grant us your salvation.

Commit to listening to His promises with this line from Psalm 85…

I will listen to what God the Lord says;

he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants—

but let them not turn to folly.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Open in prayerful reflection on Isaiah 40:1. Read it aloud and then silently meditate on it for 2 minutes.

  2. Isaiah 40:1-11 is loaded with imagery. Which image or phrase does your soul need to hear today? Why?

  3. Which image or phrase does our world need to hear today? Why?

  4. Why is the message of the prophet in Isaiah 40:6-8 an important message?

  5. Compare and contrast Isaiah 40:10 with Isaiah 40:11. How do these verses show different aspects of God’s character?

  6. Since “the word of God endures forever” what are ways that we do (or start to do) prioritize his word in our personal lives and in the life of our church community?

  7. Close in prayer with Psalm 85.
