Stillnaz Youth Ministry Update 1/15

It all begins with an idea.

Happy Monday! 

Today is Martin Luther King Jr day!  We are reminded today that "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."  I am praying today that our youth would rise up against injustice and be a group that seeks Jesus' justice in all spaces of their life and the world.

  As we think about that, I wanted to make you aware that as we restructure our d-groups, your teen will be invited to serve once a quarter with their d-group.  We will be sending out more information on this in the future.  One way to partner in fighting injustice is to serve within our community.   

As we plan for this year of relationships and service, I wanted to send out the preliminary details about Mission Week!  Mission week will be the week of June 24-28th and we need your prompt response by the end of this month if your teen is interested.  This is not a registration form but an interest form.  If your teen has any interest at all, please fill out the form.  We are attempting to get a rough idea of how many could be joining us as Holly Strait secures jobs for our teens!  Please fill out the form as soon as possible.

Just a reminder, our first sermon series in our year of relationships will be a zoomed in look at our core values and how they affect our relationships.  Last week we talked about building unity and sharing our stories.  This week we are talking about praying relentlessly.  We will be talking about how prayer affects our relationship with Jesus, each other and yourself.  We will be walking through the steps of the Ignatius Examen Prayer with a modern twist for teens called Daily Replay.

On Sunday mornings at Insight, we will be focusing in on a teen prayer series that will reinforce our core values and Pastor Josh's prayer series.  The series is on RightNowMedia and is led by Francis Chan.  It does incorporate topics such as sex, drugs, and peer pressure.  If that is something you are concerned about, please reach out and let me know!

Just a reminder we are going to have an all teen lock-in this Friday starting at 7:00pm.  We need volunteers!  You can use this link to sign-up your teen or to volunteer: http://tinyurl.com/5n8dzc37

Tomorrow night is the final deadline for sign-ups and then I will send an email around to those registered with details!

Also, if your teen signed up for Winter Jam, I will be sending details about that by the end of the week!

Finally, we need your help!  We have started an Instagram page for our teens and need parental permission for photo/video being taken and posted.  Could each of you send an email to pmoses@stillnaz.com stating whether your child can or cannot have the photo/video taken and posted?  We greatly appreciate it!

Stillnaz Youth Ministry Update 1/2

It all begins with an idea.

Happy New Year!  As we go into this year, God is reminding me that we always harvest what we plant (Gal 6:7).  I am praying this year we will partner in planting seeds of the Spirit, not growing tired of doing good, but trusting that we plant and water, but God grows.  For we are co-workers in God's service (1 Cor 3:9).  A great way to plant seeds for the year is to reflect on your personal growth plan for the year and to start talking to your teen about their plan for growth this year which we will explore together as a youth group this month. It all begins with an idea.

Happy week until Christmas!  We wait in hope and anticipation for Christmas day, remembering what it would have felt like to wait for the Messiah, living in the time where we know He has come and is with us, but also anticipating His coming again.  I pray this week you are filled with His presence and that you call on His name with hope, waiting and anticipating what He will do.  Emmanuel!  God is with us!

Tomorrow is our Ignite Christmas Party!  Each teen is being asked to bring a 5-10$ wrapped gift to participate in the gift exchange.  You can also wear your Christmas pjs or anything Christmas!  Please encourage your teen to invite someone to this fun night!

Hi Stillmeadow families!

Stillnaz Youth & Young Adult Ministry Update 12/6

It all begins with an idea.

Stillnaz Families!

We have started the Advent season!  We are praying for you and your family as you prepare to experience hope, peace, joy and love in the waiting of Jesus' arrival!  We are in the middle of the sermon series "You are called."  This week we are talking about being called to be someone who brings hope!

So far we have explored Jeremiah who was called to use his voice, Ezekiel who was called to not care what other people think, Jonah who was called to "those people," and Isaiah who was called to freedom.  

This Sunday during the 10:30 service, the teens will have Advent prayer stations set-up in the MPR for the congregation to walk through!  So please check it out!

We have a lot of announcements this week that can encourage us to serve, invite and grow!  Check them out!

Stillnaz Youth Family Update 11/22

It all begins with an idea.

Stillnaz Youth Families!

These first few weeks of youth ministry have been great!  30 hour famine was such a blessing to see the youth participating in just mercy!  The grand total raised was $7269.00!!  Our youth ranked 10/400 churches!

We are working through the sermon series, "You Are Called."  We have been talking about what our calling looks like individually and communally during this transition season.  We have talked about being called to use our voice and to not care what others think.

Please take some time to fill out the youth and young adult survey!  We would love to hear your feedback!  My official full time start date will be December 4 which is right around the corner!

Hey SNY Families,

Stillnaz Youth Families,

It is with excitement and honor that this week starts our journey together in youth ministry!  I am so excited to partner with you in God's purpose and mission for our youth.  He is a God of wild and amazing things and in Him we put our trust during this season.  Will you join me in praying that our youth, individually and collectively, would rise up and embrace the calling God has placed before them?  I am praying that we see a fire burning so bright that it is contagious to our entire congregation.  Please always feel free to reach out with any questions, thoughts, or concerns!  In the next week we will be sending around a survey that we would encourage each parent and youth to complete.  We want to hear your voice as we navigate this season of youth ministry!  Praise God for His work in each of our stories.  I cannot wait to learn all of yours.

Stillnaz Youth Family Update 11/1

It all begins with an idea.

Hey SNY Families,

It is with great joy and sadness that this week is my last week on staff at Stillmeadow, as Emily, Ezekiel and I will moving out of York county permanently after church on Sunday. It has been an honor to serve as Youth and Young Adult Pastor over the last 4 years. Undoubtedly the highlight of our time here has been the relationships that we have established with young people and families alike. I praise God for each of you and ask for his continued blessing and guidance on leading your families in pursuit of Jesus. May you have open ears, sensitive hearts, and clear minds to sense how God is leading you and your families, and may you have the bold courage to follow Him wherever that may lead!

Pastor Tabitha will be taking over the responsibilities of Youth Pastor as of this Sunday 11/5. You can reach her at Tmartin@stillnaz.com with your encouragement for her family’s transition and any questions you may have about youth ministry. What a gift it is that God has already raised up another leader from within our church so that our youth ministry can continue on without a hiccup. His faithfulness knows no bounds!

As for the other practical things… Today is the last day to register for 30 Hour Famine. Don’t miss that deadline :). We are also looking forward to our Fall Fest at Natalie & Garrett Wagner’s house this Saturday— I look forward to seeing you there!

We are partnering with WorldVision to raise funds and awareness to combat global hunger and poverty. Students are encouraged to begin fasting at noon on Friday 11/10, arrive at our York City Campus (350 Chestnut st) by 7pm for a lock-in where we will worship and learn about WorldVision’s mission, then on Saturday we will participate in service projects around York county. We conclude the event with a feast at 6pm! You can register for the event and begin raising funds right away! Register HERE!

It’s our quarterly family night. Elementary aged kiddos are encouraged to join the youth group for worship and games. Parents will stay to have a parent cohort with Pastor Josh and the interim youth personnel to discuss the status and direction of youth ministry and its leadership (spoiler alert— It’s still Jesus! :) )

We all have a calling to serve God, whether it’s as a teacher, pastor, doctor, nurse, construction worker, whatever! We want to partner with our students as they approach the end of their high school time to discern how God might be calling them vocationally. Registration for this event is now closed, please join us in prayer for our upperclassmen who are attending this event that God would be at work in them in preparation for the event and continued service as they enter adulthood.

Stillnaz Youth Family Update 10/26

It all begins with an idea.

Hey SNY Families,

In case you missed the announcement, Pastor Tabitha Martin will be appointed as the new youth pastor! She will assume the responsibilities as of 11/5. I am so excited for our church and our youth ministry, I have all the confidence in the world in her as a faithful and skilled pastor. I could not hope for a better successor in the ministry. Please join me in praying for her, her family, and our youth ministry as our church walks into this next season.

A personal thank you to everyone who came to our farewell party earlier this week. Emily and I were overwhelmed by the visible presence and support of our church family. We praise God for you and your encouragement!

Some people have been asking about our moving plans. We are actually beginning our move tomorrow evening Friday 10/27 at 5pm. We would love any support in helping load our truck up if you would like to come help! You can shoot me an email or text message for our address. No need to RSVP though, you can just show up for however long you are able :).

My final day on staff will be next Sunday 11/5. If you have any needs or concerns related to youth, young adult, or family ministries before then, please do not hesitate to reach out. God bless you, and may God bless our youth ministry!

It’s halloween too, so we look forward to having a good time with church appropriate costumes. Stillnaz Youth Family Update 10/18

It all begins with an idea.

Hey SNY Families,

Isn’t this fall weather great!? Pumpkin spice is in the air, haha! I hope that you find some time this week to slow down and take a deep breath to appreciate God’s beauty of the changing color colors.

We continue in our series of “How NOT to be the Church” during our Sunday School classes and Ignite sermons along with all the other ministries of the church. Last Tuesday we had Pastor Josh as a guest preacher to our teens, and I will be finishing up the last sermon of the series next Tuesday at the Farewell Party. Reminder that the whole church is invited to join us for worship and fellowship next Tuesday 10/24. We have also clarified that my last day on staff and living in York will be Sunday 11/5. My family appreciates your prayers as we transition to this next season of ministry, as we will continue to pray for Stillmeadow and the youth ministry specifically.

You can expect additional details about the leadership of the youth ministry within the upcoming week. There is also only a couple weeks left to register for 30 Hour Famine… don’t miss out on the opportunity to serve others around the world by fundraising! A few weeks ago we received the news that Pastor Chris is following God’s call to a new path of ministry and he will be leaving us here as stillmeadow. Although we are sad to see him go, we are excited for him and his family to adventure to this new experience and journey in their walk with Christ. We want to celebrate, say goodbye, and send the Fullers off with a little party to show our appreciation for the last 4 years of ministry to Stillmeadow. Stillnaz Youth Family Update 10/5

Hey SNY Families,

I pray that you are finding yourselves in a strong rhythm as families as we enter our 3rd month of the school year. I’m sure there are plenty of projects due, tests coming up, games, and many other fun things. My encouragement to you is to not lot sight of the importance of intentional family discipleship time amidst the hustle and bustle of your lives.

We have begun our All-Church series “How NOT to be the Church” and look forward to Pastor Josh preaching at ignite next week!

Stillnaz Youth Family Update 9/27

Hey SNY Families,

I am grateful to each of you who have reached out with your encouraging words and blessings after the announcement of my resignation and plans to pursue God’s call to full-time prison chaplaincy. As we are in this season of transition, I have been working with Pastor Josh to prepare a robust plan for the season after my departure. We will be sure to communicate those details as soon as they are solidified. Please continue to pray for our Youth and Family Ministries, and that God would strengthen our leaders to continue carrying the task of discipling our young people in the upcoming interim season.

Announcement of Family Ministry Change 9/12/23— Please Read Immediately

Announcement From Pastor Chris

Dear Stillnaz Families,

 

It is with both joy and sorrow that I come to you tonight.  Joy from the grace and direction of God, and sorrow for the ending of a season.  During our Ignite youth group tonight 9/12 I will be communicating to our teens that I will be resigning from my position as youth & young adult pastor.  It has been a great joy and privilege that God has called me to serve in this role over the last 4 years.  And as I continue to pursue the Lord, I am being called to serve as a prison chaplain away from York county.  Often, during times of transition, some may wonder, “what’s really going on?” or “did something happen?” and I just want to confirm that this is not a separation from any negative experience, but that God is just calling my family to a new chapter of our journey in ministry.  Please pray for me, Emily, and Ezekiel as we continue to walk in faith at the Lord’s leading, as we will continue to pray for our Stillmeadow family! 

 

Over the next few weeks, we will be communicating more of the practical details of what the transition will look like.  But we expect that it will be 1-2 months before my final day on staff.  In the meantime, I do want to affirm that youth ministry is not going away.  We have an incredible team of seasoned youth workers who have walked through pastoral transition before that will carry the ministry in the interim.  Youth and family ministry is something that our church values deeply and we will continue to invest in that ministry as we begin the season of transition and pastoral search.  

 

Each of the students will likely respond differently to change, some will take it harder than others, while others may even be excited for it.  I would just affirm their feelings, however they respond.  And I believe it will be important to ensure them that the youth group will not disappear, they will still have most of the same leaders, that they will still be able to connect with their peers, all the fun things on the calendar like 30 Hour Famine and the Ignite Christmas party are still going to happen, and also remind them that the church (or youth ministry) really isn’t about 1 person, but it is about the community in pursuit of Jesus together.  And they can be assured that as God is calling one pastor away, he will be sure to bring another along to fill that role.


May God bless you and your family as you guide and parent your children through this transition!

Hey families, this is a bittersweet announcement. We are so grateful for the season of ministry we had with Pastor Chris  and Emily and we are so grateful that God is continuing to lead him and Emily. And we are going to miss them in York. But as God continues to lead the Fullers, God continues to lead our youth and families and young adults.

Fall Retreat is an awesome event where we get to stay in cabins, go on hikes, play games, and we even bring in A Day Awaits to lead worship for us that weekend. We ask students to leave their phones at home or with a leader for the weekend (cell service isn't very good there anyway) to unplug from the noise of the world and connect with God and other teens.
