Youth Fall Dates, Young Adult Ministry and the Fests!
Dear Stillmeadow Family,
As I prepared for Sunday’s message on marriage I was repeatedly reminded that strong marriages are not built on feelings but on faithfulness. In Two Part Invention, a memoir on marriage that Madeleine L’ Engle wrote as her husband was battling cancer, she said:
“…a long term marriage has to move past chemistry to compatibility, to friendship, to companionship.”
A beautiful picture of a gospel-oriented marriage companionship is Priscilla and Aquila who accompanied Paul on his missionary journeys (Acts 18:18), taught the budding preacher Apollos the fullness of the gospel (Acts 18:26), and hosted the growing church family in their home in Rome (Romans 16:3-5). William James Jennings described their partnership like this:
“Priscilla and Aquila are a couple under ideal conditions; they are not consumed with self-preservation but with a shared life that yields to the Spirit.”
When Jesus gave his instructions on marriage in Mark 10:1-12, he was right in the middle of describing the essence of discipleship. And Dietrich Bonhoeffer comments, “The disciple’s exclusive adherence to Christ therefore extends to [their] married life. Christian marriage is marked by discipline and self-denial. Christ is Lord even of marriage…Christianity does not depreciate marriage but sanctifies it.”
May our approach to, conversations about and practice of marriage be salt and light in our community and world where people are suffering from the broken effects of putting feelings, chemistry and self-preservation first.
And let’s engage in the word every day this week. Here’s the reading schedule that includes further exploration of what the Bible has to say about marriage…

The Fests! Retiring Well, Children’s Ministry Update
Dear Stillmeadow Family,
This weekend, in our Saturday Child Dedication Service and in our Families Services, we celebrated 5 families dedicating 10 children!
And we contemplated what Jesus said in Mark 9:38-50, where he called his disciples to be responsible with the impact of their lives. To be responsible is to respond to the needs of our time and place with Jesus’ courage and grace.
In Jesus we see someone whose eyes saw the overlooked, whose hands touched the untouchable, and whose feet went to the unreached.
Jesus’ hyperbolic about “cutting off” eyes, hands and feet are intended to shock us into removing any habits that cause others or ourselves to stumble in faith. Our eyes, hands and feet have been given to us to bless, not to curse, to salt the earth, not to sour the earth.
As you go about your week, allow Jesus to lovingly examine your life and show you what needs to be cut out so that your life can be fully devoted to him in this time and place.
The last part of Psalm 19 is a perfect guide to praying this. Follow these words and listen to His voice today to be responsible with the life He has given you.
But who can discern their own errors?
Forgive my hidden faults.
Keep your servant also from willful sins;
may they not rule over me.
May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
And engage in the word every day this week. Here’s the reading schedule…

The Fests! The Journey Course, and the new Discipleship Pathway
(We apologize for sending two email blasts…this email is the updated version!)
Dear Stillmeadow Family,
Over the last two Sundays at the Stillmeadow Lane Campus, we have explored what it means to follow Jesus in our current political climate. In this time, it is easy to practice political idolatry (surrendering our energy and imagination to political issues above God) or political apathy (avoiding it all because we’re afraid of or tired of conflict). But Jesus practiced political engagement, addressing the issues of his day with the mission of heaven: healing, reconciling and restoring. He invites us to do the same.
As Christians who follow the crucified, resurrected and soon returning Lord of the Universe, it is time for us to engage in politics as He did and does. It is time to serve the place in which we find ourselves and serve the people around whom we find ourselves. We are a people who remember that empires have risen and fallen, but the kingdom of God remains. We do not put our hope in whoever is or is not elected, but in One who was resurrected!
So, here are some practical ways you can serve right here in York.
Welcome new immigrants to York with the New American Welcome Center.
Help families into new homes with Habitat for Humanity.
And here are practical ways you can serve with Stillmeadow.
Help foster families by joining the Foster Care Initiative.

Emotionally Healthy Spirituality, Intro to Stillnaz and Jerk Chicken!
Dear Stillmeadow Family,
Yesterday we explored the time when Peter had Jesus adjust his political expectations. It was not the most glamorous moment in Peter’s life, yet it was pivotal. When Peter admitted that Jesus was Messiah in Mark 8, he showed his faith. But when Peter rebuked Jesus, he showed where he needed to grow in his faith…which is why Jesus rebuked Peter.
Everything Jesus does is in love. And when Jesus called Peter “Satan” and told him that he did “not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns” he was lovingly inviting Peter to adjust his expectations of the Messiah. He was inviting Peter to take God’s concerns in mind, to look at things through a heavenly and redemptive lens.
Discipleship for us today requires us to do the same. And this impacts how we engage in worldly politics. In this season, I encourage you “have in mind the concerns of God” by doing two things:
Take more time to listen to the Jesus story-line than the political story-lines.
Isaiah 50:4b says: “He wakens me morning by morning,
wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.”
Do the math: what do you listen to or dwell on more? Human concerns or God’s concerns? Human concerns will only lead you to more anxiety. So, you may need to decrease or eliminate social and news media (which are mostly toxic and rage-bait). And you may need to increase or add prayer and Bible reading time in the beginning, middle or end of your day.
Take time to speak well of others.
James 3:9 says: “With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness…this should not be!”
We live in a negatively charged political environment, and Christians have an opportunity to set an example in how we speak of others. We must not only reduce, but eliminate derogatory language and story-telling in reference to people with whom we disagree. We must find creative ways to speak well of all people, even when we disagree with them.
Jesus is the Messiah, the One the world has been waiting for! It is time to admit that He is the Messiah who defies and redefines our political expectations. He is greater than any political candidate and has better plans than any political platform. Let us live according to His political platform of love.
We have a reading plan that goes along with our current series. Read along and ask: “What Time Is It?” And then act accordingly.

College Planning, Emotionally Healthy Spirituality and Intro to Stillnaz
Dear Church Family,
What Time Is It? According to the scriptures (Mark 7:24-37, James 2:1-17) we studied yesterday “It’s Time For Mercy.” At Stillmeadow Lane we concluded the service with an invitation to seek and share the mercy of Jesus. And I want to bring that same invitation to your email inbox.
In Faith, seek mercy
What in your life needs healing and wholeness? Who in your life needs the streams in the desert? Are you trying to fix yourself? Are you trying to be the one who saves the day?
Humbly come to Jesus, recognizing Him as the glorious fountain of mercy.
In Works, share mercy
Who in your life needs healing and wholeness? Is there someone who is facing great turmoil, or is overlooked, misunderstood or often avoided?
Ask Jesus for strength to share His mercy with those that come to mind. Make a plan to reach out.
And a question that needs to be asked: What in your life needs to be removed in order for you to share mercy? Are you limiting your financial ability to give in mercy because you are spending too much on yourself (shopping, gambling, entertainment)?
Ask the Spirit to help you see what needs to be eliminated so that you can share God’s mercy with others. Make a plan to cut it out today.
We have a reading plan that goes along with our new series. Read along and ask: “What Time Is It?” And then act accordingly.

GriefShare, College Planning, Intro to Stillnaz
Dear Church Family,
“The Time Has Come!” were Jesus’ first words in the Gospel of Mark. He came to introduce a new way of keeping time, a new way of living in this world. Our culture keeps time according to school schedules, sports, birthdays, holidays, political seasons. But Christians keep time according to Christ. The primary events that orient our lives are the two events of Jesus’ resurrection (the defeat of sin and death) and His return (the ultimate righting of all the wrongs). And between those events, Jesus is our metronome, our standardized time, our “temporal compass” (as James KA Smith says). Our time is in his hands and He gives us the rhythms for living in the in between times.
My prayer for us as a church in this season is that we would know the answer to “What Time Is It?” That we would listen to Jesus and do what He says. It is easy to listen and forget, or even to not listen at all, but it takes faith to listen and obey. I encourage you to reflect on this: What is God calling you to adjust in your own life so that you can listen to Jesus first and foremost and obey His direction for your life BEFORE the demands of the world?
One way is to listen to His truth in the Bible. We have a reading plan that goes along with our new series. Read along and ask: “What Time Is It?” And then act accordingly.
Weekly Reading

Tuesday: Deuteronomy 4:21-40; James 1:16-27

Thursday: Isaiah 30:27-33; Mark 7:9-23

Saturday: Isaiah 33:1-9; Romans 2:12-16

Child Dedication, New Facilities Manager, New Sermon Series
Dear Church Family,
This is my first weekly email to you after the Sabbatical and my heart echoes Paul’s heart in Philippians 1:3-6. “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Thank you to each of you for your faithfulness through the summer, whether that was through prayer walking, or serving in VBS or with Rise Against Hunger or in any of our ongoing ministries. Thank you for listening to God through the reading of Scripture and for sharing those stories with others!
“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ…” (Philippians 1:9-10)
Blessings,
Pastor Josh

Welcome Bash & Baptism, Share Your Story, Youth Retreat
Dear Church Family,
"What a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see. When I look upon His face, the One who saved me by His grace. When He takes me by the hand and leads me to the Promised Land. What a day, glorious day, that will be!" Pastor Steve left us with the thought that the best is yet to come. This song does the same. The best is yet to come, and Romans 8:19-21 leads us to that truth. It says, "For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed." It also says, "Creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God." What a promise! I pray that for you today. I pray that your journey towards meeting Jesus physically face-to-face begins here on earth, meeting Him daily in your everyday routines.
Blessings,
Pastor John

Share Your Testimony of God’s Faithfulness This Summer
Sunday at the Welcome Bash we will be sharing the stories of God's faithfulness and the way we heard God's voice over the summer! There isn't time to hear everyone's story so we have two options: one, you can write your posterboard testimony on Sunday morning and walk forward during worship to display it. Two, we are asking you to share your story to a reporter! At the Welcome Bash, we will have a Stillmeadow reporter in the foyer of YCC to video record 1-3 minutes of your experience with God this summer! Stop by to share your story! Please plan to use one or both of these means to celebrate the work of the Spirit!

Welcome Bash & Baptism, Youth Events, Child Dedication
Dear Church Family,
James 5:13-16 says, "Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven."
This week as we continued to journey through our Articles of Faith, we explored Divine Healing together. Jesus is calling us into the mystery of healing. His desire is for you to be made whole. We live in a world where He is healing but there is healing to come, and this is a holy tension for us. We live knowing I have been healed and I am still being healed. In this wrestle, we know the Kingdom of God is here! When Jesus came and stated the Kingdom of God has come, He began to heal and deliver, showing the world has sickness, the Kingdom of God has no sickness; the world has demons, the Kingdom of God has no demons; the world has death; the Kingdom of God has no death. Then His healing and deliverance and salvation culminates on the cross offering eternal healing, deliverance and salvation. Healing always happens whether we see it on this side of eternity or not.
James calls us to embrace this mystery of healing, to offer the prayer of faith. Let's ask Jesus for hope, for faith, let's take the risk and embrace the mystery because we trust Him enough to know that each of our endings are different, but our healing starts when we ask.
With hope,
Pastor Tabitha

Welcome Bash & Baptism, Back to School Events
Dear Church Family,
This week, we explore the Sacraments the Church of the Nazarene and Stillmeadow celebrates. Baptism and The Lord’s Supper are the only sacraments recognized within our Articles of Faith. These two recognize the beginning and the earthly end of Jesus' public ministry.
In Mark 1:9-11, we find the record of Jesus’ baptism, establishing this as an activity that we, as Christ's followers, want to follow and emulate, expressing the change that takes place in our lives because of our salvation. Jesus further ordains the sacrament in Matthew 28: 18-20, commonly called The Great Commission 18. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
We at Stillmeadow are committed to baptizing people in this context and celebrate this sacred activity each year to celebrate with those who are affirming their salvation. Additionally, we celebrate communion monthly, and the second sacrament is recognized.
Jesus himself instructed the church to celebrate Communion or the Lord’s Supper, as it is often referred to. With His words, “Do this in remembrance of me,” Luke 22:19 communion became a sacrament that reminds us of the Atonement provided by Jesus' death and sacrifice. Jesus wanted us to be reminded of what He has done for us. This week, while we focus on these two articles of faith, remember what Jesus did for us and call us to remember. His earthly ministry between these two highlighted critical events of His life and sacrifice for us.
Let us continue our prayer walking and record our walks on the maps posted at each campus (Stillmeadow Lane in the Stillnaz café and York City in the foyer). Together, let’s pray for Manchester Township and York City, anticipating the transformative power of our collective prayers this summer.
In His service,
Pastor Kent

The Church
I was reminded what the church was when we began attending Stillmeadow in 2002. The building is not the church, but the people are the church. The manual says, “The mission of the Church in the world is to share in the redemptive and reconciling ministry of Christ in the power of the Spirit. The Church fulfills its mission by making disciples through evangelism, education, showing compassion, working for justice, and bearing witness to the kingdom of God.”
The first time my wife and I stepped foot in the church she had two little ones, aged 1 and 2, in hand. As the service started she found herself walking the hall with a fussy child. A long time Stillmeadow member stopped to introduce himself and welcomed her. That gesture had a lasting effect that we will never forget. That individual still plays a big part in the church, and I am certain he had stuff to do that day, but he saw an opportunity to serve and show compassion to a mom with a crying baby in hand. He did not know our story, but he was living out what Jesus did by bearing witness to what he was taught.
The church/the people are family, they walk through and support each other through tough times and good times by living out the redemptive story. The power of the Holy Spirit can do amazing things when the church comes together in unity to show love to all! I leave you with this:
1 Thessalonians 4:9-11
New International Version
9 Now about your love for one another we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. 10 And in fact, you do love all of God’s family throughout Macedonia.(YORK) Yet we urge you, brothers and sisters, to do so more and more, 11 and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you.

Welcome Bash & Baptism, Child Dedication Event, Work & Witness Trip
Dear Church Family,
"May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it." 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 reminds us of God's will for our lives to live a sanctified life, but it also reminds us of who is doing the sanctifying. The sanctifying work of God is an act of His grace. Sanctification is not a call to keep a checklist of the holy acts we do in a week, but instead to be so full of the Spirit that holiness flows out of our spirit, soul and body to the world around us. Being full of the Spirit means making room in our lives for His Spirit to convict and transform. Yesterday, Pastor Bryan Todd shared with us about entire sanctification and Christian holiness as we journey through the Footsteps of Faith of our church doctrine. If you weren't able to attend, listen to the link below! This week, live a life making room for the Spirit so His grace and love flow out of your life to those around you! You could be someone's burning bush!

Rise Against Hunger Event! Baptism, Child Dedication
Dear Church Family,
We have crossed the halfway point on this Footsteps of the Faith Journey and Summer Sabbatical Season. Over the last several weeks, we have heard about the Articles of Faith 1- 9. This week our focus is on 9, Justification, Regeneration, and Adoption. This is the action that God, through Jesus our At-one-ment, takes on our behalf when we decide to Repent.
Paul, writing to the Romans, helps us understand the concept of Justification found in Romans 3:26: “He (referring to Jesus) did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. In John 3:7, the concept of Regeneration is displayed as Jesus states, “You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You[c] must be born again.” Adoption is clear in Romans 8:17, where we are called co-heirs with Jesus.
So this week, as you read and reflect on the scripture, take time to recognize what God has done for us, letting the enormity of this priceless gift sink in.
Let us continue our prayer walking and record our walks on the maps posted at each campus (Stillmeadow Lane in the Stillnaz café and York City in the foyer). Together, let’s pray for Manchester Township and York City, anticipating the transformative power of our collective prayers this summer.
In His service,
Pastor Kent

Rise Against Hunger Event!
Dear Church Family,
I pray that you had a fantastic holiday weekend. Even more important than the freedom we celebrate in this nation is the freedom we have through Jesus Christ. I talked about repentance on Sunday. There is freedom in repentance. Giving up sin and walk toward the cross brings freedom and peace into our live. God's kindness to us "is intended to turn you from your sin" (Romans 2:4). Walk continually with the Holy Spirit in that freedom. The staff is praying for you as we continue to journey through our Articles of Faith. You won't want to miss the next few weeks. We have some guest speakers coming up that are really fantastic.

Youth BBQ Chicken Dinner Fundraiser, Rise Against Hunger Event!
Dear Church Family,
God prepared the way for His Son, Jesus, to bring grace and mercy into a lost world. Throughout the Old Testament we see the need for Jesus. As Pastor Tabitha spoke about prevenient grace this week, it reminded me the path for Jesus is the same path God creates for each one of us to come to Him. Paul says in Romans 1:20, "For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." Since creation God has been creating a path to Himself whether we knew it or not. If you are reading this and are not sure you believe God loves you and wants to spend eternity with you, He is waiting with open arms to love you and fill all the empty holes in your life. His grace is already extended through Jesus. Remember that prevenient grace is grace that is extended before we know we need it. Jesus took a chance on me before I even knew he did. That may be considered reckless by some, but that same love is extended to all. Embrace and accept it today. I look forward to a great week reflecting on His prevenient grace.

Kids & Teen Camp, Camp Fundraiser
Dear Church Family,
This past week we stormed the heights in our first all- church prayer walk. We had many stories of connection and prayer. There was a group of teenagers who met a woman who was struggling with her mulch so they stopped, mulched for her and talked with her about Stillmeadow. There were groups that prayed with people in their yards and there were groups that helped people who had fallen and offered encouragement. We all prayed and saw God's hand moving in a mighty way. We encourage each of you to continue to join in our prayer walking summer, highlight your route on the map and then share your stories with us! Let's cover Manchester Township and York City in prayer this summer and watch and see what God will do! Our next all-church prayer walk is July 16th!
Yesterday, Pastor Kent preached about sin and the atonement. John 1:29 says, "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, 'Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!'" We know we live in a world of original sin and are tempted in our own personal sin but look, there is Jesus, who takes away the sin of the world! Jesus came as the perfect remedy that we may live a full life now, not just in eternity! May we continue to look to Him, turn away from sin, and show His perfect love to others! As we turn our eyes back to Him, may we see the world through the eyes of Jesus! As we continue our Footsteps of the Faith series, pick up a journal at the welcome desk, and journey with us through the devotional!

Dear Church Family,
The Great Commission
18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,[b] baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
When I was a young teen, I realized that I loved to help around my church, especially when there was a need in the community, and as I got older found a passion for missions while traveling overseas to build a church. I loved when missionaries came to tell their stories about God’s work on the mission field. I often found myself talking to the missionaries, asking how to become one, and being reminded time after time that it would require education. I remember leaving brokenhearted because education wasn’t easy for me, and I ran from it. I never stopped loving missions though, and knew God had more.
Fast forward to today – yes, education is a part of serving God as we should always have a thirst for knowledge. What I did not know in those earlier days though was that God was teaching me the whole time - how to love and serve like Jesus - my neighbors, community, work place, my place of play – those spaces were my mission field. I also learned that if I cannot do missions in my own backyard, how hard it would be to serve overseas or in another unfamiliar space. I needed to learn to serve God where He placed me.
God continues to show me that I can’t step over people to serve people – I need to pay attention to the people around me and serve them the way that Jesus did.
We are all commissioned when we say yes to God. He gives us the same power that Jesus had to overcome the grave (Ephesians 1:19-21)! That power – His power – is in you.
Saying yes takes the power of the Holy Spirit. Allow God to help you figure out the details. A good reminder is found in Isaiah 55- His thoughts are not our thoughts, and his ways are not our ways. We can trust that He has commissioned us. We can also trust that His power lives in us and He is with us always.
So today, what has God been tugging at your heart about - maybe something that you keep running from like I did? Where is your mission field today? Go and make disciples!

VBS, Kids & Teen Camp, Camp Fundraiser
Dear Church Family,
2 Timothy 3:15-17 (NIV) highlights this week's scripture focus and our belief in the Holy Scriptures.
15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Paul's words to Timothy resonate with us today. Just as Timothy was raised on the scripture (Old Testament) and its teachings led him to the Savior, we too can find inspiration and transformation in the scripture. It is a guide for us to discover and grow in our discipleship of Jesus, leading us to live truly transformed lives.
As we embark on this summer’s Footsteps of Faith Sabbatical Journey, I invite you to seize this opportunity to deepen your faith. Let's prepare to record our prayer walks on the maps posted at each campus (Stillmeadow Lane in the Stillnaz café and York City in the foyer). Together, let’s cover Manchester Township and York City in prayer, anticipating the transformative power of our collective prayers this summer.
In His service,
Pastor Kent

Summer Prayer Journal, Camps and Retirement Class
Dear Church Family,
Yesterday we began the Sabbatical journey by enjoying and experiencing the Triune God together through worship and the breaking of bread. As part of my departing thoughts, I shared a modified version of the blessing that I offer to my children every night. Receive these in the love that I have for you. Until we meet again…
May the Love of the Father,
Mercy of the Son,
And Presence of the Spirit
guide you this summer.
(Make a circle on your hand) May the circle remind you
of His eternal love,
(Make a cross on your palm) May the cross remind you
of the greatest expression of that love,
(Clasp your hands together) May the embrace remind you
of the joy we share in Him.
And check out the worship service we shared yesterday at the Stillmeadow Lane Service.
Our summer weekly reflections and daily scripture readings are included in the summer prayer journal (see below for more info or download here).

weekly reflection questions for groups or individuals
daily scripture readings for personal or family devotions
All the articles of faith!
We also want to prayer walk our neighborhoods, so instructions are included on that as well!
