Call to Worship: Psalm 130
Reflection Questions:
Begin by slowly reading Psalm 130 and choosing a verse to meditate on for another minute.
In 2 Kings 2:1-14, Elisha took over Elijah’s ministry as prophet to the northern nation of Israel. What is difficult about ministry or family transitions and how do we need God’s help in them?
Read and reflect on one of two of Elisha’s miracle stories: 2 Kings 4:25-37 and 5:8-19. What do these reveal about God’s heart for people?
When Jesus shared his mission in his hometown synagogue (Luke 4:23-30), he referenced Namaan (2 Kings 5:8-19). Why would this be so upsetting to Jesus’ Jewish family?
When John the Baptist was wondering if Jesus was the one he was expecting, Jesus gave an account of his ministry activities in Luke 7:21-23. What do these activities tell you about the purpose of the disciples of Jesus?
OurStory: Jesus and Elisha both met physical needs within their ministries. What are the physical needs of our community that God is calling us to meet and address?
Close in prayer: Commit to caring for the widows, the untouchables and the outsiders of our day. Ask God for eyes to see with his love and hands to move with his love.
