Call to Worship: Psalm 8

Reflection Questions:

  1. Begin by slowly reading Psalm 130 and choosing a verse to meditate on for another minute.Begin by reading Psalm 8 aloud. Then choose a verse or phrase to meditate on for 2 minutes.

  2. Sunday, June 8, is Pentecost Sunday, when we remember the birth of the church in Acts 2. Take a moment to name 3-5 things about the church for which you are thankful.

  3. The prophets Nahum, Habakkuk and Zephaniah lived during the final years of the southern kingdom of Judah. Their words contain warning and wisdom for our lives today.

  4. Nahum’s message against the Assyrian empire (read Nahum 3:12-19), shows the temporary nature of earthly empires. Why is this important for believers to remember?

  5. In Habakkuk’s divine dialogue, God revealed how faith and pride oppose each other in Habakkuk 2:14. How do they help or hurt in the relationship with God?

  6. Zephaniah 3:9-17 show’s God’s redemptive intentions for Israel and all people. How have these come true in Jesus?

  7. Look at the inclusive vision of Zephaniah 3:9. How can the church embrace the “shoulder to shoulder” service of God with people of diverse backgrounds?

  8. Use Habakkuk 3:2 to close your time in prayer. What has God done in the past that you would like to see him “repeat in our day”? Ask him to do that!
