Call to Worship: Psalm 103:1-12

Reflection Questions

  1. Begin by reading Psalm 103:1-12. Pause and meditate on a verse for a minute.

  2. As we explore the death of Jesus, how would you explain how and why Jesus died if you only had 30 seconds to do it?

  3. Read Mark’s account of Jesus’ death: Mark 15:16-38. What stands out to you about how Jesus died?

  4. Read two of Jesus’ explanation for his death in John 10:10-11 and Mark 10:43-45. What do these tell us?

  5. The early church spent time reflecting on Jesus’ death. According to Colossians 2:13-15, Ephesians 2:14-16 and Romans 5:6-8, what did Jesus’ death accomplish?

  6. Which of these explanations resonates with your heart?

  7. Jesus challenged his disciples to take up their own crosses in Luke 9:23-25. How does Jesus’ own crucifixion help his disciples in our call to deny ourselves and carry our cross?

  8. As you close prayerfully consider these two ways to respond. 1) Put your trust in Jesus and receive the life he attained for you. 2) Consider where in your life you need to be like Jesus and deny yourself to carry your cross.
