Summer Camps, Discipleship and Donuts, and Bus Ministry

Dear Stillmeadow Family!

What does it mean to “wait on the Lord?”

At the conclusion of the message yesterday, we looked at two verses that emphasize the idea of waiting on God. First, in Lamentations 3:26 we read, “it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” Then in Hebrews 9:28 we read, “so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

But what does it look like to “wait quietly” and be the kind of people “who are waiting for him?” Jeremiah was a man who learned this through obedience and through suffering. He did what God told him to do even through difficulty.

Here are some practical ways to become the kind of person who waits on the Lord.

Do an internal expectation audit. Ask: “What do I really expect God to do in my life? Where am I expecting salvation from other things in my life?” If there is anything you’re looking to for satisfaction more than God, ask him for help.

Write “waiting time” into your agenda. Create space to be quiet before God. Shut down your digital devices and be silent before God like Elijah was on Mt Horeb (1 Kings 19).

Practice waiting. Let others go first at mealtime, on the road or at the store. Choose the longest line and remember that God is present with you in the line. God is not in a hurry.

Be obedient in the waiting. If you know the right thing to do, do it. If you know God has asked you to invite someone to church, do it. If you are sleeping with someone who is not your spouse, obey God and stop doing that. If you are consuming alcohol or taking drugs in order to find relief from stress, get help (our Wednesday Night Celebrate Recovery Ministry is excellent). Often God is waiting on us to be obedient with what we already know before he leads us to the next step.

I’m grateful for and cheering for you this morning!
In Christ’s love,

Josh
