Spiritually Blind // Easter @ Stillnaz, Baptism, Young Adult Conference
Dearly beloved,
“Do you want to become his disciples too?” (John 9:27)
This question from the formerly blind man led the investigation committee of Pharisees to hurl insults at him and eventually accuse him of being “steeped in sin at birth” (John 9:34). Their defensive and accusatory response exposed their own blindness and sin.
The healing Jesus gave to this man was symbolic for all of us. We need light. We need help to see. And Jesus is “the light of the world” (John 9:5) that we need.
Check out the message from Stillmeadow Lane, where we unpacked the connection of spiritual blindness and humility. To recognize our need for Jesus as our light is an act of humility that keeps us on the right path towards unity with and through Christ.
For the season of Lent, the days between Ash Wednesday and Easter, we are considering the role of humility in our pursuit of unity. It takes humility to embrace unity. Interestingly enough, in the English language, the letter U is before the letter I in both of those words. UB4I (You before I) is the invitation to put God and others first in our lives as we pursue our Savior and Unifier, Jesus Christ.
As you follow the Living Word Devotional you will see the theme of blindness and sight, darkness and light, woven throughout the Old and New Testament readings. As you read and pray, I encourage you to:
Ask God to show you your blind spots and help you see yourself and others with his love.
Repeat the first step.
Join me in Unified Prayer for York
As you know, we are praying for unity every day this year. The days between Ash Wednesday (February 18) and Easter (April 5) are a special time of Christian unity in York County, as we join with 29 other congregations in focused prayer for York. Follow the prayer guide available online and at our welcome desks. Integrate the prayers into your morning and mealtime prayers. Let’s watch what God does.
Gratefully Yours,
Josh
