Whose Party? // Church Board Nominations, Day2Pray, Family Fall Fest
Dear Stillmeadow family,
Jesus was not messing around when he confronted the religious leaders of his day. It is not a stretch to say that each parable he chose in this series of teachings in the Temple (Matthew 21-22) was one that he prayerfully considered before sharing in front of those crowds. He was doing what Psalm 78 describes, opening his mouth with parables to teach the next generation of “the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord” (78:4) so that they would “put their trust in God…not forget his deeds…but keep his commands” (78:7).
The parable of the wedding feast (Matthew 22:1-14) was the final of the trio of parables directly to the political and religious leaders. In this wedding feast narrative, Jesus loudly proclaimed that God’s invitation is for anybody! But just as loudly as he proclaimed that the invitation is for anybody, he also warned that some people foolishly reject God to their own destruction.
What about you? Will you accept the invitation from God? Will you arrange your life around his kingdom agenda? If you’re looking for guidance on that, reread Philippians 4:4-9 for basic kingdom action and attitudes.
What about you? Will you be a servant who carries the invitation to others? Will you arrange your conversations and habits around telling others that God’s invitation is for anybody no matter what? Again, if you’re looking for guidance, reread Philippians 4:4-9 for how to be that kind of servant.
I’m grateful for, cheering for and praying for you!
Grace and Peace,
Josh
