Call to Worship: Psalm 1
Reflection Questions:
Read Obadiah 1:1-4, How does our pride slowly lead to a place where we say, “Who can bring me down to the ground?”
How does Micah 6:6-8 this contrast against the pride and injustice we see in Obadiah and Micah? How do we try to bring “unrequired offerings?”
Read Jonah 4. God had something for the people of Nineveh and for Jonah. When has God sent you and worked on you at the same time?
Let’s reflect again about the challenge from the message: Who has hurt us or who can you relate to?
a. People like the Edomites who take advantage of us b/c of past hurt
b. Being like the Edomites, wanting to withhold help from those who have taken advantage of us, carrying pride, hurt and unforgiveness
c. People like the hypocritical Israelites
d. Being like the Israelites when they turned from God to idols, participated in injustice, participated in hurt toward outsiders, were hypocritical
e. People like the Assyrians who don’t know who God is
f. Being like the Assyrians who needed mercy
g. People like Jonah who have judged or withheld love
h. Being like Jonah and running from God, from loving our enemies or from experiencing God
How is Jesus the mountain of the Lord (Micah), Mount Zion (Obadiah) and the plant (Jonah) that helps us in each situation?
What baggage do you carry that Jesus is offering a clean slate?
Close in prayer with a partner confessing the baggage you need to leave behind to start over.
