Call to Worship: Psalm 145:9-21

Reflection Questions

  1. Begin by praising God with Psalm 145:9-21.

  2. Peter was one of the first people called by Jesus to follow him as a disciple. What do you think it would have been like to just leave your family business and start following a teacher you thought was the Messiah?

  3. If you were to write a letter to the church today, what are two things that you would want to emphasize or encourage?

  4. As the early church grew, Peter wrote letters to encourage their faith. Read the intro to his first letter: 1 Peter 1:3-9. What does this tell us about what God has done and is doing for believers?

  5. Look at 1 Peter 1:3-9 again. Reflect on the role of faith in the life of believers.

  6. Now jump to Peter’s second letter and read the conclusion: 2 Peter 3:8-18. Take some time to ponder what Peter has to say about “the day of the Lord.” What does that stir in your heart?

  7. Break into groups of 2-3 to discuss 3:14-18. What did Peter mean when he said, “make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him”? And are making every effort? Where do you need God’s strength?

  8. In your groups of 2-3, close in prayer for each other to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (3:18) and specifically address the answers to the previous question.
