Call to Worship: Psalm 121

Reflection Questions

  1. Open your time by slowly reading Psalm 121.

  2. Give a 30 second explanation for why Jesus ascended back to the heavenly realms with his Father instead of staying physically present with his church.

  3. Read Luke’s accounts of Jesus’ ascension in Luke 24:50-53 and Acts 1:7-11. What do you notice about these final moments Jesus had with his disciples?

  4. Paul gives an excellent summary of the breadth of Jesus’ ministry in Philippians 2:6-11. Read it and focus on the purpose of the ascension in 9-11. What does this tell us?

  5. In his letter to the church in Ephesus, Paul gives more explanation of what’s happened since Jesus’ ascension. Read Ephesians 1:20-23. Slow down and imagine the power Jesus has. What does this mean for believers?

  6. If you’re in a group, break into groups of 2-3 to discuss and pray over this final question: If God gave Jesus all authority, what areas of your life do you struggle surrendering to his authority? Why do you think that is?

  7. Close in prayer for each other. Declare Jesus’ power over the struggles that you shared with each other. And then pray that York, PA, the USA and the world will know Jesus as King.
