Call to Worship: Psalm 86:1-10
Reflection Questions
Pause for two minutes and then read Psalm 116:1-9. In what area of your life do you need rest? Say verse 7 to your soul.
Imagine yourself as a disciple on the mountainside in Matthew 28:16-20. Which part of Jesus’ final words is the most challenging to you? Which is the most comforting?
Now read Luke’s two commission accounts in Luke 24:45-49 and Acts 1:1-8. What is similar and different between Matthew’s retelling and Luke’s retelling?
Finally, read Jesus’ interaction with Peter in John 21:15-22. How does this personal interaction between Jesus and a disciple help you understand the way to carry out the commissions that are given by Matthew and Luke?
After reading the various sending passages in the gospels, where is your life reflecting the commission and where is your life not reflecting the commissions?
Now what about the church: What are some ways that the church can change to better obey Jesus’ commission? What are you going to do about it?
Jesus was not joking when he gave the commission, so close in prayer for yourself and the church, asking God to give wisdom, creativity and power to live out the commission today.
