Call to Worship: Psalm 130

Reflection Questions

  1. Reflect on Psalm 130, pausing on verses 5-6. Take time to wait in prayer, laying your requests before God and sitting silently.

  2. In today’s reflections, we’ll cover the prayer time of the disciples in the upper room and the first sermon after the outpouring of the Spirit on the disciples. Our primary question is: what can we learn about our purpose as the church from what happened on Pentecost?

  3. Start by reflecting on Acts 2:1-13. Describe the action and posture of the church that day.

  4. Read Peter’s initial explanation of what was happening in Acts 2:14-21. Rephrase Peter’s introduction in your own words.

  5. Peter continues by telling Jesus’ story in Acts 2:22-36. Which part(s) of this story stir heart and grab your attention most? Why?

  6. What strikes you about the response of the crowd in Acts 2:37-41.

  7. Peter pleaded with them to “save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” Define and describe the corruption we face in our generation from which we need to be saved. How does Jesus help us escape?

  8. Our primary question is: what can we learn about our purpose as the church from what happened on Pentecost? Are you ready and willing to be empowered to proclaim GodStory to your home, workplace and neighbors?
