Reflection Questions
Slowly read Psalm 15 and choose a line to meditate on.
The letter of James is a collection of wisdom. Read James 1:1-8 and choose from one of the 12 Wisdom Sections to read and discuss. (1–2:1-13, 2–2:14-26, 3–3:1-12, 4–3:13-18, 5–4:1-10, 6–4:11-12, 7–4:13-17, 8–5:1-6, 9–5:7-11, 10–5:12, 11–5:13-18, 12–5:19-20)
Read 1 John 1:1-2:2 for a little more theology than James. How does John’s explanation of life, light, truth and sin connect with James’ practical guidance?
Now jump to Jude’s description of “contending for the faith” in Jude 3 and 20-25. How do we do what he describes here?
All of the writers refer to Jesus’ second advent. Read James 5:8, 1 John 4:16-17 and Jude 21. What does it look like to be ready for the second advent of Jesus?
If you are in a group, break into groups of 2-3 for the final questions. Where in your life do you sense God calling you to mature? Is there any area of your life where you are not ready for Jesus to return?
Close in prayer over the response to the previous question, asking God for strength to mature and for patience to endure.
