Back to School Sunday, Welcome to Pastor Casey and Welcome Bash!

Dear Stillmeadow Family,

Pray for Teen Camp

21 teens and 7 adults from Stillmeadow will be at Mid-Atlantic District Teen Camp this week. To quote Pastor Tabitha, “Let’s be praying that the Spirit move in unity and transformation and healing and vulnerability and mobilization…asking that everyone’s eyes will be on Jesus and that hearts will be open.”

Praying the Psalms

In yesterday’s message we took a quick flyover the book of Psalms using the framework from Walter Brueggemann who describes the three general types of psalms as “Orientation, Dis-Orientation, and Re-Orientation.” These Psalms provide guidance for prayer in stable times, unstable times and rebuilding times.

Today, I’d like to encourage you to pray Psalm 61:2 (it’s the Psalm for our reading plan today).

“From the ends of the earth I call to you,

I call as my heart grows faint;

lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”

The image of a high rock reminds me that God gives us security and sight, protection and perspective. Jesus is “the rock that is higher” who protects us and shows us God’s love and guidance. We can call to God from “the ends of the earth” and he will hear us.

May you find strength, security and sight in Christ alone, and may he guide you into and through your week.

Grateful for, praying for and cheering for you,

Josh

PS If you’re interested in the Breuggemann book, it’s “The Spirituality of the Psalms.” If you’d like to order it from a local bookseller, you can do that from the good folks at Hearts and Minds in Dallastown.
