Easy and Light // Rise Against Hunger, Beach Day and Welcome Bash
Dear Family of God,
On Sunday we began our second summer series: “The Yoke of Jesus.” Jesus offered an incredible invitation in Matthew 11:28-30: 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Jesus invites the weary and burdened to lean into him and learn from him. To take on his yoke is to choose him and his teachings about the world. So, for the rest of July we’re going to study the yoke of Jesus as told in the parables of Matthew 13. Jesus told parables to engage and inspire the imagination of the heart. Parables have a way of uprooting false beliefs about God and pulling back the curtains of the soul. My prayer is that as Dr David Bowser expounds on the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:1-23), Pastor Chastity Frederick preaches on the parable of the wheat and weeds (Matthew 13:24-43), and as I and Jade explore the parables of the treasures and the net (Matthew 13:44-52), that we will lean into Jesus and learn from him, discovering that his yoke is easy and his burden is light.
I’m grateful for you, praying for you and cheering for you as you allow Jesus to prepare you for what’s ahead and as you look to him through it all.
Also, pray with me for our youth traveling back from Nazarene Youth Conference. They arrive home tonight after an incredible week in Utah. I can’t wait for you to hear about it from them, and here’s a recap video about their week.
